I loved my Auntie Betty

My earliest memory of her was when she was visiting from Africa. She came to stay with us , and see her dear sister, Bubbles, whom she loved very much. She gave Rosemary and I an African doll each, and gave Mummy a beaded gourd . We were very much in awe of this rather glamorous aunt. The following day she invited my sister and I to brush her beautiful thick, long dark hair. It gave her much amusement! She then with a flourish, put it up in a chignon and secured it with hairpins. The finishing touch was watching her apply bright pink pencil lipstick from a slim silver case. Amazing!
We enjoyed family visits to Uncle Denis’s and Auntie Betty’s beautiful cottage in Chute Vale, Devon. We met up with other Dege family members there too. There was plenty of loud laughter!
We also enjoyed special family gatherings and reunions in Guilsborough.
Betty was always empathetic when someone in the family was unwell, or needed a break, including Mummy , myself and many more. She then encouraged us to come and stay in her home in Blagdon and be cosseted - such special times.
She blessed Ricky and I with an amusing speech at our Ruby Wedding - always so entertaining!
Thank you Betty for being such an inspiration to me over the years- keeping in touch, and always being interested in all of our family.
I will miss her so much, and all our lovely chats.
God rest your soul, Betty. You will always be in my heart xxx 💐
